MILLARD COUNTY, UTAH – August 2, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — A 16-year-old West Jordan girl was killed in an early morning rollover accident on northbound I-15 Sunday.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, Stephanie Villegas died around 2:30 a.m. when her parents’ car drove off the road and onto the median near mile marker 143 outside Cove Fort.
Investigators say the car rolled as the driver overcorrected, ejecting the teen onto the highway where she was struck and killed by an oncoming motorist.
Troopers say it appears the girl had removed her seat belt in order to stretch out on the back seat. Her parents, Enrique Villegas, 41, and Monica Rodriquez 38, survived the accident with minor injuries.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
