SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, Aug. 28, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A West Valley City man is facing three charges of torture of a companion animal, a third-degree felony, after allegedly beating and strangling kittens “for their safety,” according to court documents.

A probable cause statement from the 3rd District Court of Salt Lake County said Jordan Hagen, 27, was arrested Monday and transported to Salt Lake County Jail with his bail set at $50,000.

“Police responded to a call of animal cruelty,” said the statement. “Complainant is the (suspect’s) roommate and explained the suspect had violently killed his cats.”

The suspect was transported to a police station and read his Miranda rights.

“He admitted that he had been strangling his kittens and told his roommate that he needed to get rid of them for their safety,” the statement said. “A few days later, the suspect stated that he got angry at one of the kittens and beat it to death while it fled to another room for safety.”

The suspect then used the body of the dead kitten to beat the other kitten into paralysis, the statement said.

“After the second kitten was close to death, he put it in a box and left it in a field to starve or die from its injury,” the statement said. “The suspect openly admitted to his actions and claimed that he has done it before and may do it again.”

  1. A clear psychotic. This man is a serial killer of people in the making. He is already a serial cat killer and should taken seriously. If not dealt with by justice and mental healthcare systems now, he will continue on his murderous path and become even worse.
