WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Jan. 22, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — West Valley City police took one man into custody and had K9s searching for a second after a chase that started in West Valley City and ended in Salt Lake City.
The call was dispatched at about 11:43 p.m. Thursday. Lt. M.T. Johnson, West Valley City Police Department, said at the scene that officers spotted a stolen car at about 1800 West and 3300 South.
“When they attempted to stop the car, the vehicle fled,” Johnson said. “There was an officer in position to deploy spikes, so he deployed spikes and was able to spike a few of the tires. It got onto I-215 there at 3500 South.
“It couldn’t get going too fast because it was losing tires, so it got off on California Avenue,” he said. “Two occupants got out and fled. We were able to apprehend what we believe is the passenger, and the K9s are still out there seeing if they can locate the driver.”
The car had lost three tires, Johnson said.
“Once they got off the freeway they were going about 10 mph because of the flat tires.”
