WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Aug. 24, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A father and son from West Valley City were both hospitalized Friday after a fight between the two ended with knife wounds for both.

Lt. Steve Burke, West Valley City Police Department, told Gephardt Daily that police first learned of the case when the 49-year-old father walked into Jordan Valley Hospital complaining of slash wounds on his torso.

Before long, the 30-year-old son also walked into the hospital with knife wounds, Burke said. One — he wasn’t sure which — was transferred to the Intermountain Medical Center for treatment.

Burke told Gephardt Daily at about 8 p.m. that the father was still in surgery, but the son had been interviewed.

“It started as a domestic, father and son,” Burke said. “They were going to a bank in the car when they got in an argument, and the father got out of the car and walked to his son’s side and stabbed him.

“The son got out of the car and wrestled the knife away from his father, and stabbed him. It was probably self-defense, but we want to interview the father and get his story about what happened.”

No charges have been filed yet against the men, both from West Valley City, and no names released, Burke said.

Both are expected to recover from their injuries, which are classified as non-life-threatening.
