TOOELE COUNTY, Utah, Jan. 3, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A West Valley City man died after being rear-ended by another vehicle as he was stopped on Interstate 80 Sunday morning.
According to Utah Highway Patrol information, Refugio Ramirez, 30, was traveling east with a 27-year-old female passenger in a Honda Accord on I-80 just before 5:30 a.m. near milepost 55. Officers believe he may have been having mechanical problems, and was possibly stopped in the right lane.
A 2008 Chevy truck struck the Honda from behind, and witnesses told officers the two occupants of the Honda were ejected.
Ramirez received fatal injuries and died at the scene. His passenger was taken by medical helicopter to Intermountain Medical Center in serious condition.
The three occupants of the truck were not injured.
