LOGAN, Utah, March 23, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Weber State University athletic director Jerry Bovee has been hired away by Utah State University, it was announced Tuesday.

USU Vice President and Director of Athletics John Hartwell announced that Bovee has been named Assistant Vice President and Deputy Athletics Director for External Affairs at USU. Bovee will officially begin his new duties in early June.

In his new role, Bovee will serve as the second in command in the Utah State Athletics Department and oversee all external functions, including some direct sport supervision, a USU statement says.

“We are really excited for Jerry to join Utah State Athletics,” Hartwell said in the prepared statement.

“He’s an Aggie, he received his undergraduate degree from USU, and he began his athletic administration career in our department. Jerry’s familiarity with and knowledge of our program are huge assets for Aggie Athletics. We’ve got a lot of positive momentum within USU Athletics right now and the addition of Jerry to our staff strengthens our department even more.”

Bovee comes to Utah State after spending the past 10 years as the Athletics Director at Weber State University.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to come back to Utah State where this all began for me over 25 years ago,” said Bovee. “The chance to be part of Aggie Nation once again is a thrill for our family.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the last 12 years at Weber State and value the lifelong relationships I’ve made in Ogden. I look forward now to renewing friendships and being part of the amazing successes happening at Utah State.”

Weber State officials tweeted their congratulations:

“We wish @JerryBovee the best of luck in his new adventure. He brought @weberstate athletics to new heights, including 19 @BigSkyConf championships, numerous facility upgrades, and most importantly, endless support and mentorship of student-athletes. #WeAreWeber #LouderAndProuder.”

Bovee, who earned his bachelor’s degree in business finance from Utah State in 1992, began his career in athletic administration at USU as he worked as a sales and promotions specialist and later as an Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing and Promotions at Utah State for four years (1992-95).

In 2010, Bovee earned a master’s degree in Business Administration from Weber State.

Bovee was born and raised in Ogden and attended Ben Lomond High School. He and wife Julie have four children: Jared, Ethan, Addison and Seth.
