SALT LAKE CITY, November 24, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) ─ A woman was physically assaulted Sunday night after confronting a man who was stealing her car.

According to Salt Lake City Police, a woman was at work, at 533 South 500 West, just after 11 p.m. Sunday, and had left her car running to let it warm up. Returning to her vehicle, she she noticed a man was sitting inside with the door open.

The woman confronted the suspect who then punched and slapped her. The suspect started to drive away while the woman was still partially inside the car but she let go to avoid further injury.

Salt Lake City Police De. Greg Wilking said this is a good reminder as the weather gets colder to make sure to be around our cars as we warm them up.

“It’s never a good idea to leave a car running and not stay close to the vehicle,” Wilking said. “Many insurance companies will not pay if you leave the keys in the car and if you lock the door, the suspect may just decide to break the window anyway.”

Wilking said the vehicle stolen, a 2015 Dodge Dart, has since been recovered.

The suspect in this case has yet to be identified.
