SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Aug. 16, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A woman in her 30s was transported to the hospital late Thursday night after she lost control of her vehicle and it rolled over and caught fire on westbound 2100 South.

Lt. C. Valencia, Salt Lake City Police Department, said the woman was actually walking and talking with officers after the rollover crash, apparently unaware of the injuries she had sustained.

Valencia said the woman’s vehicle was fully engulfed in flames when police arrived on scene, and the officers smelled alcohol on her breath.

“I’ve been drinking,” she allegedly told the officer, and he asked her, “Alcohol?” and she answered in the affirmative. She was then transported by ambulance to Intermountain Medical Center, according to information given to Valencia.

He said the woman’s vehicle hit a power pole, bringing down a power line that started a grass fire in the area. Her vehicle was also destroyed in the fire.

Valencia said the woman was ejected in the crash and suffered extensive road rash as well as the loss of half her ear and a cut on her forehead deep enough to see bone.

Valencia told Gephardt Daily the incident is still under investigation.

“If you’re going to be drinking,” Valencia said,” be sure you have a designated driver.”

The woman’s vehicle was the only one involved, which was fortunate, he added.
