HERRIMAN, Utah, Nov. 29, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A 24-year-old woman is reported in stable condition after her vehicle struck a fire hydrant early Friday morning on Copper Mine Drive in Herriman.
The impact of the crash, which was first reported at 12:46 a.m., led to significant street flooding, with water levels a couple of feet deep as first responders arrived.
Medical personnel quickly reached the woman, despite the rising water, and performed life-saving measures before rushing her to the trauma unit at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray.
Herriman Police Sgt. Alex Felsing told Gephardt Daily, the driver was awake and talking enroute to the hospital and was expected to be okay.
Felsing said investigators were on scene trying to determine the cause of the crash and think the driver, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, may have fallen asleep.
“There was nothing terribly suspicious about the crash, although the investigation is still in its early stages,” Felsing said. “We’ll see what the ER turns up.”
While the initial flooding appeared to threaten nearby homes, the water department was able to shutdown a damaged water main, according to Felsing, and the streets were quick to drain.
