ROY, Utah, Aug. 27, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A man is behind bars after allegedly attempting to kidnap a woman in a park in Roy Saturday.
Jorge Pedro Soria Nieto, 22, was booked into the Weber County Jail on a charge of second-degree felony kidnapping.
A probable cause statement said the woman was walking on a trail behind West Park, at 4500 S. 2900 West.
“A male came behind her and wrapped his arm around her waist with one arm, and put his other hand around her mouth,” the probable cause statement said. “The victim also said the suspect was trying to drag her into the bushes.”
The victim said she was able to remove his hand from her mouth and scream for help, and that the suspect, later identified as Nieto, released her and then ran off.
“The victim and her husband were able to find the suspect several minutes later and was able to record the suspect with their cellphone,” the probable cause statement said.
Police were dispatched and the suspect was later located at Midland Elementary at 3100 W. 4800 South and taken into custody.
Nieto was transported to the Roy Police Department, and read his Miranda rights, the probable cause statement said. Officials said Nieto stated he had been drinking for two hours prior to the incident, and decided to go for a run.
“Jorge stated he saw the victim on the trail and had a moment of weakness and went behind the victim, and put his hand around her mouth,” the statement goes on. “Jorge stated he had bad thoughts, and later said he wanted to touch the victim’s breasts, but didn’t.”
Nieto also told police that he has only lived in Utah for four months, doesn’t have an ID and does not know his home address.
