SOUTH SALT LAKE, UTAH – October 13, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A woman managed to call for help as her ex-boyfriend allegedly held against her will and had her locked inside a garage Monday night.

According to South Salt Lake Police spokesman Gary Keller, police dispatchers received a call from a female around 11 p.m. who said she was being held against her will by her ex-boyfriend.

“The victim was able to tell the dispatcher that she was locked in a garage along with a description of the residence where she was being held,” said Keller. “Before the call ended, the dispatcher heard the female say ‘Put the gun down’.”

Officers arrived to the area of 255 West 3680 South and could hear voices coming from a garage. As officers opened the side door of the garage, the 45-year-old victim was able to run out.

Keller said officers then entered the garage and located Keith Trotter, 55, trying to hide a cell phone and a handgun in a chair cushion.

Trotter was arrested and taken in custody without further incident.

The victim told police she had been locked in the garage for several hours where she was hit several times, strangled with a cable and threatened with a handgun. “When the suspect left the garage for a short time the victim was able to block the door and call 911,” said Keller. “The suspect was able to force his way back into the garage and assault the victim again.”

Trotter was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail and is currently being screened by the District Attorney’s Office on charges of first degree DV aggravated kidnapping, third degree DV felony aggravated assault, second degree felony possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person and violation of a protective order.
