SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, April 3, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A woman is in critical condition after being hit by two vehicles while crossing South Temple at Redwood Road in Salt Lake City Wednesday morning.

Salt Lake City Police Department Detective Michael Ruff told Gephardt Daily that witnesses said the woman had just left the Love’s Travel Stop gas station at 25 N. Redwood Road at approximately 6:15 a.m.

She was halfway across the crosswalk at South Temple when the light changed, allowing cars to proceed.

It was still dark and the woman was wearing dark clothing, Ruff said, and she was hit by a passenger car heading eastbound at a low rate of speed. The driver didn’t see her, Ruff added.

She was then hit again by an SUV in the outside lane that was traveling at a higher rate of speed.

Ruff said the woman was transported to an area hospital in critical condition, but her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Redwood Road was closed between North Temple and Interstate 80 for a more than an hour before reopening.

The accident remains under investigation.
