WOODS CROSS, Utah, Aug. 7, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A woman pushed the emergency windows out of a FrontRunner train in Woods Cross and jumped out of it when it was moving, according to court documents.
A probable cause statement from the 2nd District Court of Davis County said Meghan Jane Messegee, 26, from Murray, was arrested Tuesday and is facing a charge of criminal mischief, a second-degree felony.
The probable cause statement said Messegee boarded a southbound FrontRunner train in Davis County July 10.
“While traveling en route to Salt Lake City through Davis County, in the Woods Cross area, Ms. Messegee began to shout on the train,” the statement said. “She was threatening to sue the city. At one point along the way, she pushed out four of the emergency windows on the train and leapt out one of them while the train was moving.”
Utah Transit Authority police found her walking along the tracks, the statement said. She admitted to pushing out the windows and jumping out one of them, and had cuts and bruises. The arresting officer wrote that Messegee smelled of alcohol.
“She said she had gotten on the train to be with her boyfriend, and she had gotten off the train to be with him on the train (which did not make much sense),” the statement said. “She was rather emotional.”
Her pushing out the windows caused the train to stop, putting it out of service for
two hours and causing a “delay to train travel all along the way at other stations and for many other passengers,” the statement said. “In fact, one station experienced a 31 minute delay as a result of Ms. Messegee’s conduct.”
The damage to the train car windows cost UTA $2,1114 to repair, not counting the labor costs, the statement said.
