HENDERSON, Nev., Dec. 24, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 75-year-old retired Weber County Sheriff’s officer died Thursday night after she was struck by a car in Henderson, Nev., police said.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported officers were called to Wigwam Parkway, west of Green Valley Parkway, at approximately 7 p.m. The pedestrian was crossing the road, not in a crosswalk and not at an intersection, when she was struck by a 2012 Acura MDX.

The pedestrian died at the scene, officials said.

The pedestrian was identified by officials Friday as Marva Whitehead.

Whitehead worked for Weber County Sheriff’s Office from 1990 to 2008, the sheriff’s office posted on its Facebook page.

“It is with a very sad heart that we tell you of the death of one of our retired officers,” the post said. “Lt. Marva VanSlate–Whitehead had worked for Weber County Sheriff’s Office from 1990 to 2008. She was living in Henderson, Nevada when she was struck by a vehicle and killed on Dec. 20.

“Marva was an excellent Lieutenant who did her best for the Sheriff’s Office and it’s citizens. Marva, thank you for your years of service!”

The driver of the Acura remained at the scene, and it does not appear that impairment or speeding were factors in the crash, police said.
