LEHI, Utah, Nov. 4, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A woman is in critical condition after colliding head-on with a semitrailer in Lehi when she tried to drive onto Interstate 15 the wrong way.

Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Evan Kirby said the woman was driving a sedan the wrong way on SR-92 from the west frontage road near Thanksgiving Point at approximately 7:30 a.m. The vehicle went the wrong way, southbound, up the northbound I-15 off-ramp. It struck another passenger vehicle at a relatively low speed, as the second vehicle was slowing for the light.

Both vehicles came to a stop. The driver of the second vehicle got out, and later told police the female driver of the first vehicle then accelerated up the off-ramp and struck the semi head-on.

The driver who was traveling the wrong way suffered critical injuries and was taken by ground ambulance to a Salt Lake area hospital. Neither of the other two drivers were injured.

The off-ramp and the number three and four general purpose lanes are currently blocked until the scene can be cleared.

The identity of the female driver is still unclear at this point, and the reason she was traveling the wrong way is still under investigation.

The State Bureau of Investigation is assisting the highway patrol in the investigation.
