7-year-old boy hit by car near school in West Valley City

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Dec. 7, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A 7-year-old boy is in serious condition after being hit by a car in West Valley City Thursday afternoon, officials said.

The incident happened at about 4 p.m. as the boy was crossing the road from south to north in the area of 4190 S. 6000 West, according to a tweet from the West Valley City Police Department.

The boy was transported to Primary Children’s Hospital in serious condition. Although he has lacerations on his head, police said his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The driver reported the sun was in their eyes and they did not see the child before the crash. It wasn’t immediately clear whether the driver was male or female.

Granite School District confirmed on Twitter the youngster was a student at the nearby Hillside Elementary, at 4283 S. 6000 West.

The school district added in a tweet Hillside Elementary will have crisis counselors available Friday for any students who may have witnessed the accident or have any concerns. Families who have questions or need assistance are asked to contact the school at 385-646-4870.
