RICH COUNTY, Utah, June 14, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — The Rich County Sheriff‘s Office has released the name of a man who died while diving near the Cisco Beach area of Bear Lake.

The victim was Greg Jonas, 56, of West Valley City.

The Rich County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook that at 1:44 p.m. Saturday, an emergency dispatch call came in about a diving incident in the Cisco Beach area, on the lake’s east side. It’s an area popular with divers due to its water depth of 90 to 100 feet.

At 3:38 p.m., an update said the victim, later identified as Jonas, “has been transported via air ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital.

Jonas had been diving with others, the update said. It did not specify what went wrong with the dive.

At 5:55 p.m., the RCSO updated again.

“The Rich County Sheriff’s Office is saddened to report that the diver, Greg Jonas, of West Valley City, Utah, has died as a result of this incident. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones and all those affected by this tragic loss.”

Gephardt Daily will share any additional information that is released.
