WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Sept. 29, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A 50-year-old man was booked into the Salt Lake County jail system after police say he pulled a knife on a customer depositing cash in a credit union’s drive-through ATM, and the intended victim simply drove away and alerted police.
Miguel Sosa-Huerta was booked on a single count of aggravated robbery as a first-degree felony. If the case goes to trial, charges and their severity will be determined by the Salt Lake County Attorney’s Office.
The incident happened Friday night at 4976 W. 3500 South.
“The victim was depositing money into the ATM,” says Sosa-Huerta’s affidavit, filed by an officer of the West Valley City Police Department.
“The victim stated the defendant approached him with a knife in his hand and said, ‘Give me your money.’ The victim stated he put his car in drive and left because he was scared. The victim stated the defendant did not get any money.”
Sosa-Huerta was arrested nearby, the statement says.
“The defendant had a silver knife in his right front pocket. The defendant admitted to approaching the victim with a knife in his hand. The defendant and victim do not know each other.”
Sosa-Huerta was ordered held without bail.
