Bird of prey dropped off at Salt Lake City Police Department

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 3, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — A bagged bird of prey was dropped off at Salt Lake City Police Department Wednesday.

The live bird was originally believed to be a young eagle.

“#WildlifeWednesday was a bit more exciting and hands on for us today after a community member came in and dropped off a what appears to be a young eagle,” said a tweet from SLCPD.

The tweet said that the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources assisted with handling the bird.

A closer look revealed the bird had more reddish coloring and the lack of a “bald” (white feathered) spot on its head.

The bird that arrived in the gym or bowling ball bag looks similar to a red-tailed hawk, like the one pictured below.
