SPRINGDALE, Utah, Oct. 1, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for Zion National Park on Monday morning.
The park said in a tweet at 10 a.m. the warning will be in effect from 2 p.m. Monday through late Tuesday night.
“Our flash flood potential is probable, meaning some canyons are expected to experience flash flooding,” the tweet said. “The Narrows is not recommended.”
The NWS in Salt Lake City on Sunday also issued a flash flood watch for large parts of Utah for Monday and Tuesday.
The tweet said post-tropical depression Hurricane Rosa may cause heavy rainfall and the potential for flooding in Utah.
A tweet from the NWS said the watch goes into effect at 3 p.m. Monday for southern Utah, and 6 a.m. Tuesday for northern Utah and southwest Wyoming.
In southern and central Utah, flooding is likely along slot canyons and normally dry washes, the tweet said, and statewide, there is potential for debris flows originating from recent burn scars.
The areas that are likely to be affected by rainfall and possible flooding are shaded green on the map below.
The tweet said the watch is in effect until 4 a.m. Wednesday.
