PARIS, Jan. 13 (UPI) — An avalanche in the French Alps buried about 10 schoolchildren and a teacher on Wednesday, killing at least a 14-year-old while others had heart attacks.

Several children are still missing. The incident occurred at about 4 p.m. local time the Les Deux Alpes ski resort within France’s province of Isère. The teacher was found unconscious and several of the victims were airlifted to local hospitals via helicopter.

The students are from the Saint-Exupéry de Lyon High School in central France. About 30 police and several helicopters were dispatched to the scene.
