2 shot dead on Central Michigan University campus

March 2 (UPI) — At least two people were shot dead Friday on the campus of Central Michigan University, authorities said.

The shooting occurred at Campbell Hall around 8:30 a.m. at the Mount Pleasant campus, which is about 150 miles northwest of Detroit.

Michigan State Police said the suspected shooter has not been apprehended. He is described as a 19-year-old black man wearing yellow-colored jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt. He was seen a pistol tucked in his belt, officials said.

Mount Pleasant tweeted that the suspect may “have taken off his hoodie.”

CMU asked students and staff to “take shelter” as the suspect remains at large.

“MSP is committing aviation, canine and Emergency Support Team resources at this time,” Michigan State Police said on Twitter. “The CMU police department is the lead agency investigating this incident.”

With enrollment of about 20,000 students, Central Michigan University is one of the largest campuses in Michigan.

This is a developing story
