Sept. 18 (UPI) — At least three people were killed and more than a dozen others were injured Monday in a crash between a public transit bus and a charter bus in New York City, authorities said.

The MTA bus and a private Dahlia charter crashed into one another at a busy intersection at Northern Boulevard and Main Street in Queens, thrusting one bus into a Kentucky Fried Chicken and other stores.

One person died at the scene, with two others were declared dead at the hospital.

The Fire Department of New York also extinguished a small fire that broke out near a building that was hit by the bus.

Police are investigating the crash.

“We’re looking at all avenues,” NYPD Chief Elton Mohammed said. “We’re going to canvas the area for video to see if some video will expose some of the things that happened prior to the accident.”

Federal regulators have cited Dahlia for unsafe driving in the past. This year alone, the company has been cited three times for speeding and passing other vehicles improperly, the Daily News reported.

Officials say traffic is expected to be heavy throughout the day as they investigate and clean up.
