June 17 (UPI) — Authorities say an Afghan solider attacked and wounded U.S. soldiers at a military base on Saturday.

NATO-led Resolute Support said seven U.S. soldiers were wounded in the incident at Camp Shaheen in Mazar-e-Sharif at 2 p.m. One Afghan soldier was killed and another was wounded, the coalition said.

Resolute Support called it an “Insider attack.”

A U.S. military command spokesman confirmed an attack took place on the base in northern Afghanistan — where an Afghan soldier opened fire at the camp, the BBC reported.

Three U.S. soldiers were killed and one other was injured when, the U.S. military said, an Afghan soldier opened fire in the Achin district of Afghanistan’s Nangahar province in a similar attack last Saturday.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack in Achin last week, describing the shooter as an “infiltrator” of the U.S. Army.
