WASHINGTON, Dec. 13 (UPI) — Conair Corp. voluntarily recalled 8 million Cuisinart food processors because the riveted blade can break off into food, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Tuesday.
The agency said customers who bought the affected models between July 1996 and December 2015 should stop using the riveted blade immediately. The recall includes about 300,000 food processors sold in Canada.
Consumers should call Cuisinart for a free replacement blade. The company can be reached at 877-339-2534 from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, or online at www.cuisinart.com\recall.
Conair said it received 69 reports of users finding metal fragments in processed food.
The blade can crack and small, metal pieces can go into the food, posing a laceration hazard to consumers, the company said.
The blades’ four rivets are silver-colored stainless steel and have a beige plastic center hub.
Only food processors with four rivets are included in this recall. They include the following models: CFP-9, CFP-11, DFP-7, DFP-11, DFP-14, DLC-5, DLC-7, DLC-8, DLC-10, DLC-XP, DLC-2007, DLC-2009, DLC-2011, DLC-2014, DLC-3011, DLC-3014, EV-7, EV-10, EV-11, EV-14, KFP-7 and MP-14.
