Sept. 11 (UPI) — Police in Plano, Texas, said they shot and killed a suspect after a shooting at a residence left seven people dead.

Police arrived at the home on Sunday evening after neighbors reported shots being fired. A police officer entered the home, confronted the suspect and fatally shot him.The other seven fatalities, all adults, were in the home to watch a football game on television, neighbors said.

Two others at the home were hospitalized, and the police officer was not injured. The names and relationships of those at the home, and the name of the police officer, were not released.

More than three dozen Plano police officers and Texas state troopers responded to the call. A neighbor said a friend of the homeowners suggested a domestic dispute was the cause of the gunfire; the couple identified as the homeowners began divorce proceedings in July, the Dallas Morning News reported Monday.

A section of West Spring Creek Parkway, the Plano street on which the incident occurred, was closed to traffic on Monday morning as the investigation continued, police said.
