ROME, July 4 (UPI) — Authorities found the body of an American student studying abroad who went missing in Italy. The body of 19-year-old Beau Solomon was recovered from Rome’s Tiber River.
Soloman went missing after a night out with friends on June 30, after only just arriving in the Italian capital earlier that day. An undergraduate at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Solomon was beginning a summer study abroad program at John Cabot University, an American university in Rome.
“John Cabot University is deeply saddened to announce that the body of Beau Solomon, the missing American visiting student, has been found in the Tiber River,”the school wrote in a news release. “We express our most heartfelt condolences to the Solomon family and to all those who loved Beau.”
His roommate first alerted the school that he had lost contact with Solomon late Thursday night, early Friday morning. Authorities were alerted when Solomon failed to show for orientation on Friday morning.
Solomon’s older brother Jake told NBC News that when his parents called their son’s credit card company they were informed “thousands of dollars had been charged” to Beau’s account in Milan.
Last week, in the wake of Beau’s disappearance, Jake told The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that if Beau had been taken, his kidnapper “had it coming.”
Beau was the second oldest of four brothers.
“All three of us [brothers] are aligned on the fact that Beau is the toughest S.O.B. that we’ve ever met,” Jake said.
