EL PASO, Texas, March 14, 2019 (Gephardt Daily & UPI) — It’s official. Beto O’Rourke is running for president.

O’Rourke, 46, made the announcement in a video released early Thursday morning.

“This is a defining moment of truth for this country for every single one of us,” said the former Democratic congressman from Texas. “The challenges we face right now, the interconnected crisis in our economy, our democracy, and our climate have never been greater. They will either consume us , or they will afford us the greatest opportunity to unleash the genius of the United States of America.”

O’Rourke will begin his campaign with a three day swing through Iowa starting Thursday, but plans a kick-off rally in El Paso on March 30.

O’Rourke served three terms in the House before making a run at the Senate, narrowly losing to Republican Sen. Ted Cruz last November.
