BRUSSELS, April 25 (UPI) — The Maelbeek subway station where 16 people were killed in last month’s Islamic State attacks in Brussels fully reopened on Monday.

Increased security presence made up of military and police officers were deployed to “ensure the security of the entire network,” the Brussels public transport authority said. The subway will be running on the same timetable as before the attacks, but the number of entry points was reduced to one or two per station.

People can enter the station to write memorials to victims of the attacks on a tribute wall that will be later be turned into a commemorative mural.

The March 22 Islamic State attacks in Brussels targeted the subway station and the Brussels Airport in the Belgian capital’s Zaventem district, killing 32 civilians. Three suicide bombers also died. The attacks led to increased police raids seeking out suspects and a heightened security protocols.
