NEW YORK, July 21 (Gephardt Daily/UPI) — Fox News chairman Roger Ailes resigned Thursday, effective immediately, amid increasing allegations that he sexually harassed female journalists in his company’s employ.
“Roger Ailes has made a remarkable contribution to our company and our country,” said a statement from Rupert Murdoch, who heads the network.
“Roger shared my vision of a great and independent television organization and executed it brilliantly over 20 great years.”
Kelly’s claims sound similar to those of former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson, who sued Ailes earlier this month for sexual harassment after she was released by the network.
Ailes has denied that he ever sexually harassed Carlson, whose contract expired last month. She claimed Ailes made unwanted sexual advances toward her and retaliated for her rejection by effectively firing her.
