April 10 (UPI) — Chicago police said Monday a Cook County, Ill., judge was shot dead outside of his home Monday in what might have been a robbery gone bad.
Judge Raymond Myles and a woman were both shot in the incident just before 5 a.m. Monday.
According to investigators, the woman, an associate of the judge’s, was confronted by the perpetrator first and was shot in the leg. Myles, hearing the commotion, went outside and was shot multiple times, Chicago’s ABC7 reported.
Myles, 66, was pronounced dead on arrival at an area hospital. The 52-year-old woman is expected to recover.
The shooting took place at the judge’s home in the Roseland area of the city’s South Side, near Chicago State University.
The perpetrator has not yet been captured, police said. The FBI is offering a $25,000 reward.
“Everyday civil servants like Judge Myles, and those of us in law enforcement, work tirelessly to hold criminals accountable and make our streets safer,” First Deputy Superintendent Kevin Navarro said.
“When incidents like this occur, it’s not only a reminder of the ever-present challenge we have with illegal guns and the offenders willing to use them, but it’s also a direct attack on the criminal justice system that keeps our society safe.”
