June 24 (UPI) — Hackers have targeted both houses of British Parliament in an effort to gain entry into members’ email accounts.

The British House of Commons confirmed the cyberattack on Saturday, tweeting from its press office account that the body had “discovered unauthorised attempts to access accounts of parliamentary network users.”

“Parliament has robust measures in place to protect all of our accounts and systems,” the statement said.

The Independent reported the hackers focused on Parliament’s email system and that officials were notified of the cyberattack on Friday night.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said the hack “indicates just how vulnerable we are to cyberattacks and our cyber-security,” the Guardian reported.
