TUSTIN, Calif., May 23 (UPI) — A dog rescued in a Southern California drug bust has tested positive for methamphetamine and heroin, police said.
Police arrested Joshua West, 40, in hotel drug bust on March 22, but his dog, Bubba, was also in a room full of needles and drugs. West charged violating parole and drug possession, but has also been charged with animal cruelty.
Bubba was lethargic and transported to Orange County Animal Care’s facility for treatment, where a urine test found he had methamphetamine and heroin in his system. It is not known how Bubba got the drugs in his system.
“This strikes me as pretty horrible,” Tustin police Lt. Robert Wright said. “This is the first time we’ve ever heard of someone reporting that an animal has been under the influence.”
Bubba is currently detoxing at the facility, police said Friday, but when vets give him a clean bill of health, he will soon be ready for adoption.
