Nov. 26 (UPI) — Dozens of people were injured when a dance floor at a nightclub in Spain’s Canary islands collapsed early Sunday morning.

The Government of the Canary Islands listed at least 22 people who were injured when the floor at the Tenerife club collapsed and taken to the hospital for treatment by the Canary Islands Emergency Service.

Of those transported to the hospital at least two sustained serious injuries after falling from a distance of about one floor.

The mayor of Tenerife said at least 18 other people made their way to the hospital on their own to be treated for injuries, The Guardian reported.

Local firefighters said two French men, two British men, a Romanian man and a Belgian woman were among those injured.

“We are in contact with a number of British nationals who have been injured in an incident in Tenerife and are offering consular assistance,” a spokeswoman for Britain’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office said.
