Sept. 29 (UPI) — The Federal Aviation Administration has outlawed the use of drones within 400 feet of certain national monuments.
The restrictions, announced jointly by the FAA and Department of the Interior on Thursday, go into effect Oct. 5. The FAA said the restrictions were at the request of U.S. national security and law enforcement agencies.
The monuments include:
— Statue of Liberty National Monument, New York City
— Boston National Historical Park (U.S.S. Constitution)
— Independence National Historical Park, Philadelphia
— Folsom Dam, Folsom, Calif.
— Glen Canyon Dam, Lake Powell, Ariz.
— Grand Coulee Dam, Grand Coulee, Wash.
— Hoover Dam, Boulder City, Nev.
— Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, St. Louis
— Mount Rushmore National Memorial, Keystone, S.D.
— Shasta Dam, Shasta Lake, Calif.
Drone operators who violate the new restrictions could face penalties and criminal charges.
