May 9 (UPI) — President Donald Trump dispatched Federal Bureau of Investigation Director James Comey on Tuesday, following a recommendation from the top levels of the U.S. Department of Justice.

The White House confirmed the firing Tuesday afternoon.

“President Trump acted based on the clear recommendations of both Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions,” spokesman Sean Spicer said in a statement.
