FONTANA , Calif., Oct. 8 (UPI) — The FBI found about $600,000 buried in the back yard of a California armored truck driver convicted in a $1 million heist.
Agents found carefully wrapped stacks of $20 and $100 bills buried in the back yard of Cesar Yanez, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said.
Prosecutors said in an indictment that Yanez and Aldo Vega, drivers employed by the Loomis Armored transport company, conducted a scheme in 2014 to take $1 million in cash they carried from a Bank of America distribution center to locations across Southern California.
Yanez and Vega were arrested in December, and $85,000 in cash was found in Yanez’s home at that time. Two other suspects, including Yanez’s wife, were arrested and charged as accomplices in connection with the case.
Yanez pleaded guilty and was sentenced to nearly five years in prison and was ordered to return the money. Vega is awaiting trial.
FBI agents said they received an anonymous tip regarding where to find the money. About $300,000 remains missing.
