TALLAHASSEE, Fla., May 9 (UPI) — A Florida man was cited for illegal hunting after a pair of wildlife agents noticed a severed alligator foot sticking out from the dashboard of his vehicle.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said Officers Luis Merizio and Casey Schroer stopped a truck in a Wildlife Management Area to check the vehicle’s day-use pass and they quickly noticed the foot sticking out of a dashboard compartment.

The officers found there were other alligator parts scattered throughout the cab of the truck.

“The driver told our officers that the parts were from an alligator he hunted a few years ago, but our officers could smell that the alligator had been taken recently,” the FWC said in a Facebook post.

“After reading him his rights, the man confessed to killing the alligator just a few days ago without a permit, and he was cited for the violation.”
