CHEMNITZ, Germany, Oct. 9 (UPI) — German police are in communication with Czech officials in their effort to track down 22-year-old terror suspect Jaber Albakr, a Syrian refugee suspected in a bomb attack plot.
German security forces raided an apartment in Chemnitz, a German city near the border of Czechoslovakia. Three people were arrested in the raid; two were released, but the third, who police believe was involved in the terror plot, remains in custody.
According to the Wall Street Journal, police are seeking judicial approval to hold the suspect.
The apartment raid turned up a supply of an explosive material believed to be TATP, triacetone triperoxide, an explosive powder used in the Brussels and Paris terror bombings.
Police from the German state of Saxony warned citizens to be careful, writing on Twitter: “We do not currently know where he is and what he is carrying.
Police believe Albakr, who was granted refugee status after fleeing Syria a year ago, fled the apartment just before it was raided.
Though unnamed sources told The Independent the alleged terrorists planned to target a German airport, authorities have yet confirm any of the plot’s specifics.
Police shared a picture for the terror suspect online, but asked residents in Chemnitz to refrain from sharing photos of the manhunt operations on social media.
