Dec. 6 (UPI) — Congressional investigators will question Donald Trump Jr. on Wednesday as part of their probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

President Donald Trump’s oldest son will likely face questions in the closed-door interview with House Intelligence Committee investigators about his controversial meeting with a Russian lawyer in June 2016, The Hill reportedTrump Jr. has said he was told the lawyer had “helpful information” about Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Trump Jr. told Rob Goldstone, a publicist who arranged the meeting, in an email that “If it’s what you say, I love it.”

Downplaying the meeting’s significance, Trump Jr. said he and Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya spoke “very generally” about potential foreign donors to the Democratic Party and about the adoption of Russian children.

“More nothing burgers from the media and others desperately trying to create a false narrative,” Donald Trump Jr. wrote on Instagram in November. “Keep coming at me guys!!!”

Congressional investigators will also likely question Trump Jr. on any communication he had with Michael Flynn, the president’s ex-national security advisor who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI last week.

“There’s a whole range of issues we want to go over with him, everything from what went into the Trump Tower meeting, his private communications with WikiLeaks, any other meetings he had with Russian representatives, what he’s aware of in terms of Mike Flynn, what information he has about Russian money that has gone into the Trump businesses,” Rep. Adam Schifftold The Hill.

The Trump son could also face questions from the Senate Intelligence Committee later this month. Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee also want him to appear for a public hearing.
