March 29 (UPI) — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents detained a Guatemalan man for possible deportation one day after his son was arrested on a rape charge in Maryland.
Adolfo Sanchez-Reyes, 43, was taken into custody Friday, according to a statement by ICE.
Sanchez-Reyes is the father of Henry Sanchez-Milian, 18, one of two students acccused of raping of a 14-year-old student in a Rockville High School bathroom on Thursday. The other suspect is Jose Montano, 17. They are ninth-graders.
Matthew Bourke with ICE said in a statement Monday that Sanchez-Reyes was arrested “after a review of his immigration history revealed he was unlawfully present in the United States.
“He was issued a notice to appear in immigration court, and is currently detained at the Howard County Detention Center in Jessup, Md.”
Attorney Himedes Chicas says Sanchez-Reyes was arrested Friday afternoon at his home.
The lawyer told WTOP-TV that he is in Department of Homeland Security custody and the agency has “initiated removal proceedings.”
In August last year, ICE said Sanchez-Milian, the rape suspect, was found by a border patrol agent in Texas.
He was issued a notice to appear before an immigration judge after an agent determined he entered the United States from Mexico illegally. He is “currently waiting to be scheduled.”
Police said the two suspects approached a girl in a school hallway at about 9 a.m. Thursday. One suspect asked her to engage in sex and she refused, according to police. The suspect asked her again and forced her into a boy’s bathroom stall at school, police said. Both suspects then raped the victim inside the stall, authorities said.
