Dec. 13 (UPI) — Police in southern India arrested a woman they said poured acid on her lover’s face to disfigure him and pass him off as her slain husband.
On Sunday, Nagarkurnool authorities arrested Swathi Reddy, wife of Sudhakar Reddy, who was bludgeoned to death by his wife and her lover, Ajakole Rajesh Reddy, officials said.
Swathi Reddy told police the idea came from a crime thriller plot in which a woman kills her husband and tries to swap him with her lover through plastic surgery.
Swathi Reddy, a nurse, injected her husband with anesthesia Nov. 27 and when he became unconscious she and her lover hit him on the head and beat him to death with an iron rod, disfigured his face then dumped his body in a forest after partially burning it, The Indian Express reported.
To disguise her lover, Swathi Reddy disfigured his face by smearing acid on it, then allegedly pretended he was her husband, telling others that he was attacked by four people.
Sudhakar Reddy’s parents had doubts that Ajakole Rajesh Reddy was their son but agreed to send him to the hospital for plastic surgery. After a brother of Sudhakar Reddy became suspicious, he went to police, who said the wife changed her story during questioning.
After her arrest, Swathi Reddy led authorities to her husband’s body. Ajakole Rajesh Reddy is expected to be arrested as soon as he is discharged from the hospital.
