GALT, Calif., Dec. 17 (UPI) — A worker at a California recycling facility was able to snatch a tiny kitten off a conveyor belt moments before it would have entered a compressor.
.
Tony Miranda, a loader operator at Cal-Waste Recovery System’s facility in Galt, said he was sorting through the recycling items Tuesday when he spotted a live kitten among the rubbish.
.
“I pretty much just found it between all the debris and bags and just everything,” Miranda told KCRA-TV. “I just grabbed it and immediately reported it to the line supervisor.”
.Miranda said the cat likely survived a trip in a garbage truck before being pushed onto a conveyor belt by a tractor and falling several feet from one belt to another..

“We put so much material in here and we run so much stuff through it,” Miranda said. “It’s just amazing to see a little kitty survive through all this. It made my day today, definitely made my day.”

Shift Lead Heather Garcia quickly fell in love with the feline.

“Over the radio, I heard them say that they found a live cat, and I was curious cause, I mean that’s just amazing, but, I wanted to see it,” she said.

Garcia decided to take the cat home with her.

“It’s just so cute, I mean why wouldn’t you take it home?” she asked.

Garcia named the kitten Murphy in honor of the material recovery facility, which workers nicknamed “The Murph.”
