BENGALURU, India, Feb. 8 (UPI) — A leopard left a forest in India and entered a school in suburban Bengaluru, injuring six people involved in its capture.

The leopard, an 8-year-old a male, wandered into the Vibgyor International School on Sunday. It took more than 10 hours to subdue it with tranquilizers and remove it.

The leopard was transferred to a rescue center at Bannerghatta National Park, about 18 miles from the school, and later returned to the forest.

Noted conservation scientist Sanjay Gubbi and a television news camera person were among those injured by the leopard.

Though the leopard’s forest habitat is nearby, it’s rare for the animals to wander into developed areas in the city of nearly 9 million, formerly known as Bangalore.

Local residents said it was the first time a wild animal was seen within human settlements.
