Aug. 9 (UPI) — Thousands of customers were stranded or delayed Thursday after a signal failure at a London train station.
An hour after tweeting about the signal failure at the Euston railway station Thursday, London Euston tweeted that power was restored.
“Signals are now working again,” the tweet said. “We’re sorry to passengers as significant disruption is expected while trains get back to normal.”
The signal failure left thousands of commuters stranded or delayed up to an hour.
The train operating company, Virgin Trains, announced earlier in a tweet that delays and cancellations were due to “fault with the signaling system,” at Euston, which caused “all lines to be blocked.”
National Rail said on its website that “all lines have now reopened,” but “major disruption” is still expected, and Virgin Trains will accept today’s tickets tomorrow if customers want to postpone their trip.
London Euston is London’s first intercity station and the sixth busiest railway station in Britain, according to NetworkRail.
