LOS ANGELES, Sept. 4 (UPI) — Los Angeles International Airport was evacuated for the second time in a week after a traffic stop outside a terminal led to a security breach inside the terminal, authorities said Sunday.

Police stopped a suspected car thief in front of LAX Terminal 3 about 9 a.m. Sunday. Officers asked the crowd outside the terminal to go back inside, prompting some to exit past the security checkpoint and some onto the tarmac.

Terminal 3 was evacuated after the security breach, delaying the arrival and departing of several flights on Sunday morning.

About 20 people were escorted off the tarmac, and authorities rounded up the other passengers who had pushed past security. Bomb-sniffing dogs were sent through the terminal, and about 2,000 passengers had to be sent through security again once the terminal was cleared, authorities said.

Terminal 3’s airlines include Frontier, JetBlue and Virgin America.
