Oct. 11 (UPI) — Luxury accessories and lifestyle brand Coach announced plans Wednesday to change its name to Tapestry at the end of this month.

The name change comes as the New York-based leather goods maker continues plans to expand the company’s brand. It acquired Stuart Weitzman in 2015 and Kate Spade & Company earlier this year.

The brand, which had in recent years been dealing with competition from Michael Kors and Kate Spade, has tried to build a multi-brand company that isn’t dependent on the Coach name to succeed.

“We searched for a name to reflect these values while also expressing the cultural diversity of our people and our brands for today and tomorrow,” the Coach CEO Victor Luis said in a statement.

“In Tapestry, we found a name that speaks to creativity, craftsmanship, authenticity, and inclusivity on a shared platform and values. As such, we believe that Tapestry can grow with our portfolio and with our current brands as they extend into new categories and markets.”

Coach said it’s partnered with the brand agency Carbone Smolan Agency on all aspects of the rebrand.
