PEQUANNOCK , N.J., Oct. 25 (UPI) — A man died after jumping from a New Jersey bridge in an apparent suicide, while his two children, who he was carrying, survived, officials said.
The unidentified man’s car was found Monday evening near the Interstate 287 bridge over the Wanaque River, near Pequannock, N.J. He was pronounced dead at the scene after he “intentionally jumped,” police said.
The children he carried, ages 1 and 3, were injured but conscious. They were hospitalized in Paterson.
“They are expected to make a full and complete recovery,” Pequannock Police Capt. Christopher DePuyt said.
Police had received a call from a woman who said she was arguing with her husband, who threatened to harm their children.
