SAVANNAH, Ga., Aug. 28 (UPI) — A Savannah State University student died late Thursday after an argument on campus erupted into gunfire.
Christopher Starks, 22, a junior, was taken to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, Ga. after an altercation at the student union.
Classes were delayed Friday and grief counselors were on campus. A suspect in the shooting had not been identified.
“So far, no arrests have been made,” the university said in a written statement. “Because the university is a state institution, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is handling the ongoing investigation with assistance from the SSU Police Department.”
Starks, who was from the metro Atlanta area, was a former Appalachian State football player and aspiring rapper known as “Booley Boo.”
The university locked down the campus from 11 p.m. to midnight and emailed students, warning them to stay indoors.
The school is hosting a pray vigil Friday night to remember Starks, who was mourned by friends on Twitter.
