CHICAGO, Sept. 1 (UPI) — Police in a suburb north of Chicago were searching for three suspects Tuesday after the fatal shooting of a police officer.

Lake County Undersheriff Raymond Rose told the Chicago Tribune the Fox Lake officer died after being shot during a traffic stop at 9 a.m. local time.

The hunt was centered on a marsh off of Rainier Way and Rollins Road, with heavily armed police officers from various agencies taking part in the search alongside several law enforcement vehicles including armored trucks. K-9 units and helicopters are also involved.

The hunt led officials at the local Grant Community High School to put the building on lockdown for the safety of the students and staff. A local railroad service, the Milwaukee District North Line, was also shut down during the search.
